Meet our EFC Champion
Dricus Du Plessis, born January 1994 in Hatfield, is a South African middleweight mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter and kickboxer. Du Plessis is a former welterweight champion of the EFC and International KSW, the latter of which he has been participating since 2017.
Dricus has had an incredible UFC debut winning two fights in 2020 and 2021 respectively. He began practicing judo and wrestling at the age of 5 and had advanced to kickboxing when he was 14 years old. In 2012, 17-year-old Dricus won the gold and the first-ever medal for South Africa in the WAKO World Championships for juniors and cadets in the up to 86kg category in the K-1 formula.
He went on to become the national champion in this series in 2012 and 2013. He also participated in three amateur fights before becoming a professional fighter in 2013. CMTrading is proud to support our champion and brand ambassador since 2019.
backing our champion
Dricus du Plessis has served as CMTrading’s official brand ambassador since 2019.
“They’ve been an amazing part of my journey and giving me the backing I need to be the best I can inside and outside the cage,” says Dricus.
Daniel Kibel, CMTrading Co-Founder, says:
“We are excited and proud to continue our collaboration with such an incredible fighter and we expect even greater things from this amazing relationship in the future.
As Africa’s top financial broker, we’ve collaborated with the EFC, as we share the same passion for excellence and promote similar values and ideals – dedication, determination and the ambition to become the best version of yourself.”
Dricus spectacularly made his UFC debut; In October 2020 he beat opponent Markus Perez in the first round. In July 2021, Dricus would return to the UFC ring facing off against Trevin Giles. Dricus managed to defeat Giles in the second round.
Dricus said: “2021 has been a really good year for my overall development as an athlete. I made my UFC Debut in late 2020 which was obviously a massive career highlight for me. I won that debut fight in great fashion by 1st round TKO. I wanted to use 2021 to sharpen my skills and really make a statement in my next UFC fights. In July 2021 I faced the experienced American Trevin Giles beating him via TKO in round 2 and earning a fight of the night performance bonus. I am happy to have extended my UFC contract with the organization and I am looking at a minimum of 3-4 fights in 2022 where we look to climb the rankings and enter the top 10 in the world.”
FIGHTING AND REPRESENTING SOUTH AFRICA
As well as being our brand ambassador, Dricus is also representing South Africa on the UFC stage. When he isn’t beating opponents in the ring, Dricus helps other MMA hopefuls at his gym in SA.
“Representing my country on the biggest MMA stage in the world is a dream come true and I hope to keep making everyone in SA proud and while doing so grow the sport of MMA throughout Africa. “In terms of plans for the future, I am working towards my goal of becoming the first South African UFC Champion. I also want to play my part in growing MMA in South Africa and Africa. I currently own the top MMA gym in South Africa and regularly attend workshops around the country coaching athletes and coaches,” said Du Plessis.
Dricus Du Plessis:
“CMTrading has been an amazing partner for me during my journey. The company has backed me long before I was a UFC Athlete and have helped to give me the resources, I need to train every day to become the best.
CMTrading has also helped me to skill myself in the art of online trading, this has helped me to create a nice passive income as I look to setup financial goals for when I retire in the distant future.
I love the thrill and excitement of Forex Trading, it reminds me so much of fighting.”
