Mandela Day - An Opportunity to Give Back to Your Community
Mandela Day is an annual international day that celebrates former South Africa's President Nelson Madela's Birthday which takes place on July 18. On this day, we celebrate his life, legacy, and values by volunteering and community service.
This year, we celebrated Nelson Mandela's legacy by following his philosophy; make the world a place everyone is appreciated.
This non-profit organisation's main goal is to empower women by providing them and their children with accommodation, employment opportunities, training, and psycho-social support.
Leading with his strong sense of community, we reached out to the Frida Hartley Shelter in Yeoville, Johannesburg by donating food parcels and groceries. The shelter helps countless women and children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or poverty every year.
"The services we offer include, but are not limited to FREE job-skills training, accommodation up to 6 months, 3 meals a day, monthly toiletries, counselling, life skills training, entrepreneurial skills training and referrals to workplace employment and further psycho-social support
We aim to enable mothers to regain their dignity by becoming independent of the shelter, in order to adequately support themselves and their children. "
